Critters


Among the many critters we saw on Captiva Island was this bird.




I never did look on the bird identification card in our house to see what type of bird he/she was.



It was not shy around humans, spending most of it's time waiting for all of us to clear out after sunset.



Sometimes he grew impatient and went in the water anyway.



Every night there was someone taking his picture.

He should probably have an agent so he can have help collecting modeling fees...


... but he's just a cool, laid-back beach bird.

Rodney has lots of pictures of this kind of bird, from when he works on the coast. Google Images "great heron" and see if you think it's a match -- we think it is, but you saw him in person. This guy looks like he partied kinda hard the night before (he's very disheveled!)

Comparing the google images to this link: http://www.sanibel-captiva.org/play/birding.asp (at the bottom), I think it might be a blue heron. Our guy didn't have such a feathery neck, even before he went wading!
