Upside-Down On Our Temperature

Yesterday we had a Memorial Day so humid that the only way to dry off after a shower was to stand in front of a fan...and then when I moved away from the fan, I needed to dry off again.

And so, I switched on the old cool air conditioner.

This morning it was sunny and humid again, causing E1 to beg for a shower after a mere 20 minutes mowing the lawn. I made her take the kids to the playground first because I'm mean.

This afternoon while the little kids napped, E1, E2 and I hid out here in the basement where it's even cooler - especially when the air is running. After nap time, we ventured upstairs to overcast skies and so the kids decided to play in the garage.

It wasn't until my brother-in-law came to pick up nephew F, and mentioned how cool it was outside that we realized the temperature had dropped outside.

My home was air conditioned at a comfortable 20 degrees above the outdoor temperature.

At what point would I be heating our home with the air conditioner?

Now With More Bran

Well, looka there. I've gone and whipped past my 300th post so quickly I didn't notice until five entries later. I know. I should slow down this fevered pace of mine, right?

A while ago I wrote about our family's discovery of All-Bran with Yogurt Bites (only at the time I thought they were Yogurt Bits), the difficulty in locating a reliable supply, and how the commercial - one I had seen but not really noticed - surprised me a little. That entry is here.

Since then, our enjoyment of All-Bran with Yogurt Bites has continued, and the trouble in finding the stuff has persisted as well.

My Target was no longer carrying this product, opting instead for the new Strawberry Medley version. My small local grocery store still wasn't stocking it either.

We tried the Strawberry Medley All-Bran, but the strawberries were declared unappealing.

We tried a Special K version that had yogurt crunchy things, but Rob didn't like it as much.

We tried original All-Bran, but...have you ever seen that stuff? The morning after Rob tried it he emailed me to say, Uh, NO. The texture, you see, of all those squiggly bran....squiggles, is not so appetizing.

I finally requested the Yogurt Bites version from my small grocery store...and when I didn't hear from them after a couple of days I went looking for it online. Actually, I went looking to see if this line of All-Bran had been discontinued.

It hasn't!

It showed that two of the bigger grocery stores by my Target should have it, but I was heading to Texas and in the interest of getting some of it back in the pantry I ordered some from Amazon.

After returning from Texas, when I went on my weekly grocery shopping trip, I discovered my small, local store had stocked the Yogurt Bites! Yay! So I bought two boxes to show my support, even though I had FOUR boxes coming in the mail.

That afternoon, my Mother-in-law emailed me. On our Texas trip I was telling the story of my search for the Yogurt Bites, you see, and when I mentioned the two larger grocery stores near my Target should be stocking it she vowed she'd check for me. She did check. And she bought me a box.

SEVEN boxes of All-Bran with Yogurt Bites. That's a lot of regularity.

The original All-Bran, we've discovered, has a simple muffin recipe on the side of the box. When you toss about a third of a bag of chocolate chips in you've got Chocolate Chip Bran Muffins...which, now that I type that it kind of sounds like a bathroom accident waiting to happen...

But (HA!), the kids have declared them, "THE BEST MUFFINS EVER!"

Feel free to stop by if you're feeling not so regular; we've got bran to spare.

Ow.

Last night, in a frenzy of 'get the lawn mowed before it rains Tuesday' I mowed the slightly damp lawn with the reel mower.

Short aside: Our Scotts reel mower rocks, and is totally a cheap date in these days of rocketing fuel costs.

Pushing the mower through the slightly damp grass was quite a workout. So much so, that any movement of my shoulders really hurts. Ever try to get through the day without moving your shoulders?

So, while the lawn was mowed before today's rain, my arms hurt enough that my eyes watered in pain while I washed and dried my hair this morning.

I'm off to think of dinner items that can be ingested through a straw...

  • beer
  • wine
  • ice cream shakes

I Know I've Been A Real Bad Girl

Driving along, listening to Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani....

E3: Mom, you know this girl that's singing?

Me: Gwen Stefani?

E3: Yeah. She's probably not going to get anything from Santa.

Scenes From An Italian-ish Restaurant

The girls and I dined at Pizza Hut tonight to use the last set of Book-it certificates they earned in the reading program this year. This particular Pizza Hut has assorted Trivial Pursuit question cards in the table-top container normally reserved for packets of sugar and sweetener. Upon getting seated, the girls immediately begin fishing through the box to find all the Young Players Edition cards and they take turns asking questions while we wait for our order.

E2: What is the name of the imaginary line at 0 degrees latitude that goes around the Earth?

E1: Equator

Me: Equator

E2: You're right. Equator.

E3: I guessed Equator too.

~~~~~
E1: What is albumen - egg yolk or egg white?
Me: Egg white.
E2: I guess that too.
E1: Yep, egg white.
E3: I guessed egg white too.
~~~~~

E2: What is the name of the small grey animal, valued for it's fur, that is found in the...Mom, what is A N D E S?

Me: Andes.

E2: Found in the Andes?

Me: I'm going to guess chinchilla.

E1: The grey wolf?

E2: Mom's right; it's chinchilla.

(All those episodes of Diego just paid off! Chin chill UH! SAY IT LOUDER!)

E3: I guessed chinchilla too.

~~~~~
E1: Which member of Fleetwood Mac teamed up with Tom Petty in the song 'Stop Dragging My Heart Around'?
Me: Chrissy Hines (was Chrissy Hines even in Fleetwood Mac? I think it was Christie McVie).
E2: I guess that too.
E1: Nope. Stevie Nicks.
E3: I guessed Stevie Nicks.
So Slow
My internet connection is so slow today...I fear for the attempt to upload photos I want to do later.
But I'll do it for you, dear internet, because you must see the oasis that calls itself my sister-in-law's pool. It's so pretty!
And we get to visit it this summer!
E2 made me promise to take photos of the pool when we were there last weekend, and that's about all of the photos I took.
Unless you count the photo of Christine's new laundry sorter. It's pretty too.
May Is Holding Me Hostage
How can it be almost a week past the day we left for Texas? And over a month since we went to Memphis?
Really, it's not just May that is holding me hostage because I've been feeling frazzled since March.
We're in the home stretch of the school year and girl scout year though, and our schedule is filled with all the end-of-the year stuff plus t-ball and gym.
And my house shows it. I think I need a week here alone to set it all back to rights.
